Abstract Rugs

Abstract rugs — art for your floor

An abstract rug turns the floor into a piece of art. Flowing forms, painterly washes of colour and organic shapes bring movement and personality to a room in a way no plain rug can. Every abstract rug in this collection is hand-tufted in India from premium New Zealand wool and bamboo silk, and each design can be ordered in a custom size to fit your space exactly.

What makes abstract rugs special

Unlike geometric or traditional patterns, abstract designs aren't bound by symmetry — so they feel expressive, contemporary and one-of-a-kind. That freedom makes them perfect for modern interiors that want a focal point without a rigid pattern. Our abstract range spans soft ombré gradients, bold swirls, watercolour-style blends and sculptural organic forms.

Popular abstract styles

• Swirl & wave rugs — fluid, curving lines that add gentle motion and soften a room full of straight edges. A favourite for modern living rooms and bedrooms.
• Ombré & gradient — a quiet, tonal shift from one shade to another; calming and easy to style.
• Watercolour blends — painterly washes of colour that read as fine art underfoot.
• Organic & irregular forms — free-flowing shapes for a bold, gallery-like statement.

How to style an abstract rug

Because abstract rugs carry so much visual interest, keep the rest of the room grounded: solid-colour furniture, natural materials, and one accent pulled from the rug's palette. In an open-plan space, an abstract rug is a great way to define a seating zone — treat it like a floor-level piece of art that the furniture gathers around. For a calm bedroom, choose a softer, tonal abstract; for a living room that should make an impression, go bolder.

Why hand-tufted wool & silk?

Abstract designs rely on subtle colour transitions and soft edges — exactly what hand-tufting with wool and bamboo silk does beautifully. The silk catches the light to lift highlights, while the wool gives depth, durability and a soft feel underfoot. It's a combination machine-made rugs can't replicate.
